Donor Sperm
Donor sperm offers the possibility of childbearing to women whose partner has no sperm, for those women who do not have a partner and those women in same sex relationships.
Using IVF techniques, eggs are obtained from the woman, fertilised by sperm from the donor, and the resulting embryos are placed into the woman’s uterus.
There are comprehensive medical assessments, counselling of all parties, stringent quarantines procedures and detailed screening which take place prior to the commencement of the IVF process.
All donors are subject to an extensive screening process. In addition to providing detailed family medical and personal history information, donors undergo semen analysis, a physical examination, extensive blood and urine testing, and genetic screening.
At Shire IVF, there is no waiting time for the use of donor sperm. And you can choose your donor to meet the characteristics you want! Through our unique supply agreements, Shire IVF is able to source donor sperm in less a month for our patients. Over the past decade, mainly due to Australian legislative changes, donor sperm has become difficult to access, with many patients needing to find their own donors. With our comprehensive donor sperm service Shire IVF aims to make this process easier.
